History of festival
The first year of HIP HOP KEMP 2002 / 2002 Aug 16 - 18 / Pardubice - swimming pools area

A three day all-hiphop festival within the Czech Republic was a huge premiere. No one has ever
realized a similar idea so far. The scalp and title of the largest hiphop festival in Central and
Eastern Europe has surely its worth.
...it?s Friday, it doesn?t rain anymore and the Parbubice region faded out of TV news showing
popular water sports in the street, nevertheless it seems that people will rather stay at home and
enjoy their sea-like rooms on the first floor rather than go and have some fun. However, the camp
city fills up with first tents and the programme begins. A couple of speakers, Cossiga and Kajag,
tries to bring up some fun to their cultural interludes. Dane Pervers sticks out of the pleasantly
flowing programme, dedicating his song to the dead elephant from the Prague ZOO. The evening runs up
with the more and more famous names on the podium - PSH and Grammatik heat up a bit more under the
kettle so that the closing couple of Yankees Yesh of Wee Bee Foolish and Five Deez could roast the
sweating and happy visitors until midnight.
...Saturday morning, a slow beat didn?t stop during the night at all and it?s soundtrack to the sun,
unbearably burning into the tent tilt goes on. Now the time has come to look through the photo
exhibitions, people are going wild on the miniramp and even writings are coming to live at the back.
The main stage carousel starts to wind again after noon. Jižní Pio aren?t clones of the PSH anymore
and amuse the crowd, which becomes a bit puzzled later by the two meters tall scandinavian rap
princess Mazy. One of the peaks of the festival surely is the following Kontrafakt. Even though the
headstone of their vocabulary comprises of phrases like ?got it??, ?this is rightdown hip hop? and
?believe it?, repeated until everyone got used up, the packed show of synchronized beatbox, Djing
and excellent rap doesn?t leave anyone in the dark about their sincerity and clearly separates the
rap corn from rogue husk. Indy and Wich is probably the most famous group. Andre is enjoying the
contact with the crowd and they fester him. No wonder that they look like on a Bolshevistic
procession under Sparta?s platform. But it can get even better, as shown later by the Luton devils
Phi-Life Cypher. Set of bombs out of the Millenium Metaphors album heats up the crowd under the
podium more than a noggin of Viagra. The highlight of the whole programme is the half-hour freestyle
sequence at the very end. Life is dangerous while freestyling as chewing semtex in combination with
checking of a ninevolt battery on your tongue. His rap has cadence faster than the one of soviet
Comrades? machineguns and sweeps the crowd of two thousands under the podium without a blink of an
eye. Whether I didn?t know till this time what to fancy under term of ?people go bananas", after
Life?s freestyle and standing on the head I became wiser - light ash. Bite me that it?s true, I
won?t forget this. The delight like when the first Father Christmas came is omnipresent. Now it?s
time for the switch back and a bath for regeneration.
? Sunday morning is lazy, tired. The third day. It is much closer to the end than to the beginning.
Terrible heat and the pool tempts much more than the podium or adjacent events in the tents (various
beatbox / freestyle / DJ parties took place and Chomutov?s Sleewa become a legend. According to
legends, he was freestyling for 8 hours, completely run out of words and on Sunday, he just lurched
around the promises, completely ?spilled the beans?, unable to speak). The crowd is exhausted, sun
drains the remains of energy by the straw of it?s rays and people made themselves heard only on
verbal and repeated appeals from the podium. For the first time in history people understand what
Coltcha has to say, but the agony of the crowd cannot be surpassed only by this, or by the guys Az
Ido Urai, despite their qualities. To leave off in the best means to bring the level of fun damn
high and that is succeeded by the closing Task Force. They bring the tired, but happy crowd to
jumping for the first time today with their hymn "Battle Cats" and since that time pull the fibres
of fun as they wish. Chester P, a mad drunk freestyling bow-windowed white goes like an avalanche,
falls into the crowd, but doesn?t stop and raps even in the middle of the crowd. He finally says
goodbye to the crowd with the song of universal message "fuck you" to all "authorities" of the
western world.
